A traditional start to the Guernsey Liberation Day....
10th May 2025

It's an Island tradition but also one of my own.

This is the start of Guernsey's Liberation Day.

Two of the first events of the day are the running (literally) of the LIB 7 Road Race from Rousse to St Peter Port and the Liberation Day Schools Relay along the St Peter Port seafront.

The challenge for me is being at the start of the LIB 7 at 9am then get along to Town for the Schools Relay at 9.15am.

You can probably work it out that this is near impossible - especially as town parking on Lib Day is greatly reduced!

I failed the impossible but did arrive just in time to photograph the end of the ladies race, phew!

Both events have a few photos online. Click the link to view them:

One word...... 'SPECTACULAR'!
09th May 2025

In just one word I think the 2025 Liberation Day (the 80th) in St Peter Port was 'Spectacular'!

And if you want the longer version here is how my Thesaurus describes 'Spectacular'.....

grand, splendid, magnificent, sensational, impressive, glorious, striking, stunning, staggering, amazing, astonishing, extraordinary, outstanding, remarkable, dramatic, daring, breathtaking, dazzling, eye-catching, colourful, ostentatious, flamboyant

It was all of those!

Thank you to the many who put so much of their time into making 'Lib 80' happen and to all those who joined their fellow Islanders to celebrate such an important day.

I took a few photos and they are now featured on my website if you are interested:

Sport at its best.... if your nerves can take it!
06th May 2025

Photos of the 2025 Under 15's Star Trophy football at Victoria Park Guernsey are now online.

There was an amazing atmosphere in support of the young Guernsey side showing once again how the new VP can play a role in lifting performances.

The Greens couldn't be faulted as they used every ounce of energy and passion chasing the win. But after a roller-coaster of a game it all came down to penalties with Jersey taking the Trophy.... but it could have easily gone the other way!

Well done to all the players. You certainly entertained us.

Breaking News. Time travelling is a real thing......
05th May 2025

I now have proof that Time Travelling really is a thing.

All you need is a Band from the past, a Venue from the past and a few beers..... POW! You're back in the 80's!!!!!

My latest trip back was to see The Risk at the 'Tav. Brilliant stuff!

I took a few pics and they can be viewed on my website if you are interested:

Why does there have to be a winner.....
03rd May 2025

It was one of those games where it's a shame that there had to be a winner.

But this being an Offshore Commercial Guernsey FA Cup Semi-final we knew that there had to be a result... even if it took penalties.

But it didn't come to that as North fired home a winner on 84 minutes.

Their opponents, Elizabeth College, had amassed good support for the game and truthfully if they had taken the win no-one could have questioned that their work rate deserved a reward.

It was a hugely enjoyable game to photograph... hence the number of photos I ended up with. Click the link to view them:

I head North for the CI Snooker Final.....
26th April 2025

I headed North last night to photograph the 2025 Channel Island Snooker Final at North Social Club between Paul Le Sauvage and Aaron Canavan.

This was just one of the weekends inter-Island snooker events.

There was great support for the two contenders as they played for the prestigious CI individual snooker trophy. I only watched the first couple of frames and the early results suggested that the Jersey-man, who was the bookies favourite, was heading for a twelfth title!

Take a look at my photos here:

Gareth Le Prevost's Guernsey Press report is spot on.....
23rd April 2025

The Sports Editor for the Guernsey Press nailed it in his report on the latest GFC game against Kingstonian. I recommend the read.

His headline was 'The luck goes against GFC' and certainly the score-line of 0-3 was no reflection of the run of play where the whole GFC squad displayed so much determination and passion in to their play as they fight relegation with just two away games left.

I thought the 1,200+ supporters at Victoria Park should be credited for the understanding and backing that they gave GFC. Non of them liked the result but there was a definite 'we're all in this together' vibe on the day.

There were plenty of positives to be enjoyed. Victoria Park again showed the role it will have into the future and the GFC squad just need a turn-around in their luck. It will come.....

Alex Tapp's sensational comeback......
22nd April 2025

I popped along to the Rohais Badminton Centre to photograph the Men's and Women's singles finals of the 2025 Guernsey Easter Open Tournament.

As always I found that I'd forgotten the challenge of photographing this fast sport. I needed time to just get the timing right again.

Also the challenge comes from the combination of the dark hall, particularly the green walls, meaning that setting a high enough shutter speed is hard. Then just trying to anticipate the flight of the shuttlecock adds to the mix.

Unlike, for example a tennis ball, the shuttlecock's speed and arc of flight will vary greatly as a skilled player tries to beat their opponent with unpredictable play.

However it was certainly fun to cover the two finals. Particularly the Men's where Alex Tapp produced a sensational comeback after a slow start.

Penalties..... are your nerves up to the job?
17th April 2025

Any game that is settled on penalties will end in a heady combination of relief, elation, disappointment and drama.

So it was at Victoria Park for the Jeremie Cup Final between Guernsey's St Martin's and Jersey's Grouville.

Of course when the result favours the Guernsey side all the emotion is positive.... once the adrenalin levels return to normal!

This was my first time shooting a night game at the new Victoria Park and it certain had its challenges but who cares! All those smiles made it a great night of sporting action.

The Pit promises great gigs to come.....
15th April 2025

The 2025 Decibel Tower event at St James took the form of a single night packed with live bands. And there was a great new venue to check out too..... The Pit.

There were many highlights on the night together with a couple of surprises!

When I arrived I headed straight down to the basement and the new performance area - the blackened room aptly called 'The Pit'. It was a pleasure to watch a favourite band, Space Soul, head the line-up. Mark Le Gallez, Rosemary and Amish Car Thieves also christened the new stage.

Back up in the main hall Doll Motel, Pavé and headliners Honeyglaze all entertained a good sized crowd. The night finished with one of my surprises... Get Down Services. Two guys, a heavy beat backing track and verbal abuse!

You really had to be there to get it. I loved it!

Hot and sweaty at pool-side......
07th April 2025

A change of clothing was needed after a recent photoshoot!

I had been sent to photograph the 2025 Guernsey Swimming Club 32nd Masters Open Meeting at Beau Sejour.

It has been a while since I have photographed this Sport and I'd forgotten what I'd learnt before.

Firstly... about the clothes. The pool room is mega humid and my shirt was wet through after I'd finished! And the whole thing was over in only three quarters of an hour!

And this was the second thing I'd forgotten. The races come think and fast. I mean REALLY fast - this probably made me even hotter as I was non-stop chasing the action.

As an example. The three 50 SC Metre Butterfly heats were organised to start at 6:24pm 6:26pm and 6:27pm with expected race times of between 27 seconds and 55 seconds!

Those times show that there was no hanging around. In fact swimmers had to remain in the pool whilst the next heat started, then exit whilst the first leg was being swum!

But once I got over the shocking pace it was great fun. And by good fortune I actually had a change of shirt all ready in my car as I headed straight off to the next job of the night.... Dinner Boxing.

Sports can be tough.....
06th April 2025

As a Guernseyman there was little to enjoy and less to say about the result in the 2025 Junior Muratti.

Guernsey U18's 0 | Jersey U18's 5..... ouch!

Sport can be tough and our local lads tried hard to match the Jersey reds but this time it wasn't to be. There'll be another chance to even the score!

I photographed the game and a Gallery is now online here:

GFC have found their way home.....
30th March 2025

Photos of the first game at the brand new home of Guernsey FC, Victoria Park, are now online.

On a sunny spring day Guernsey FC hosted the visitors from Westfield FC in the Isthmian South Central League in front of a crowd of over 2,200 supporters.

With a final score-line of 1-1 the GFC supporters left the ground with smiles on their faces as the new facilities had already proven the important part they will play in the future achievements of their local Club.

Congratulations and thank you to all the many Sponsors, Companies, GFC Officials, Supporters and of course the players for making it such a memorable day.

Lots of action from the Motocross dust bowl......
23rd March 2025

I visited the Motocross track on Saturday for some MX action shots... and it was more interesting than I imagined.

It was clear, even as I turned into Rue de la Trigale, that the track must be dry and dusty as billowing, powdery clouds gently drifted across the cliff-tops!

Whilst everyone ends the day dirty and needing a shower those conditions are actually great for photography - if you can manage to keep your kit fairly clean.

The atmosphere that is added to a photograph is worth the grime!

I was also fortunate that I had a busy day of assignments so I had the perfect excuse to leave the dust pit early. Lucky me!

The young guns were on fire....
22nd March 2025

The Elizabeth College team of youngsters certainly gave the more experienced CF Independants a run around on Friday night at KGV.

This was at the Quarter Finals of the Offshore Commercial Guernsey FA Cup. The young legs and the clear objective to make it through to the next round was there to be seen for the large and vocal group of EC supporters. There really was a fantastic atmosphere.

And if you were in any doubt about which side turned up on the night I think the score-line of 5-1 makes the statement.

Now, can the youthful team go one better and make the final? It's a long shot! But this is Cup football and we all know that the unexpected can happen.

Keep watching this space.....

There was no fairy-tale ending for GFC......
17th March 2025

Well I think most of the supporters of GFC turned up for their last game at Footes Lane with the perfect 'script' in their heads. It probably went a bit like this....

"GFC dominated play showcasing their best football and won with a notable 4-0 score line setting the scene for their immanent arrival at the new Victoria Park!"

Sadly there was no fairy-tale ending at Footes Lane and the 0-4 score means we now head off to Victoria Park hoping that GFC find new motivation at their splendid new ground.

Fingers crossed as we all love a story with a happy ending....

New faces and new music = a great night out at the Tavern.....
11th March 2025

I've been back to the Fermain Tavern for what turned out to be a fantastic gig.

It's always great to see and enjoy a new band and on this night two Bands on the line-up were new to me.

The opening act was Birte Paulsen and this was great start. Birte is a newcomer to the Island but clearly not a newcomer to performing as her set was confident and polished and showcased her talent as a songwriter.

I have a feeling we will be seeing Birte again very soon.

Next up on the bill was a new line-up called Rosemary. Familiar faces made an appearance but in this form they performed a short set which suggested really good things to come. Keep an eye open for their next gig.

And the headliners finished the night with a high energy performance worthy of the billing. Pillars have quickly earnt a place on my list of the top Bands currently on the Guernsey scene.

So another great night at the Tavern. Bring on the next one!

A change of scenery is invigorating.......
10th March 2025

As I'm ticking off two decades of working as a photographer in Guernsey it is inevitable that I need to return to the same assignments and events.

During this time I've been given the opportunity to photograph just about every Sport.

But, even taking into account the huge variety of Sports I've photographed, I now find that I get a 'been there, done that' feeling sometimes.

However, there are still highlights that come along and an example was on Sunday morning when I photographed the GVC MTB XC Series at Beaucette Marina.

The enjoyment came, not from the racing, but the backgrounds! The boatyard and some of the old marine items gave me something to 'work' with and I felt a bit spoilt!

The photos are now online if you want to see what I'm talking about:

The biggest edit ever is complete......
06th March 2025

I've decided that it isn't just the Rally crews that get a buzz from the racing after I counted the photos that I took over the weekend! Two thousand is certainly a record for me!!

I'll give myself some allowance as on three of the stages I set up a remote camera which meant that for every shutter click I actually took TWO photos. In fact I actually appear in my own photos..... clever, eh!

After a frantic edit of the shots I ended with about 1,000 (another record) to add to my website and they are all online now. I hope they will fill in some of the action you may have missed.

Well done to all involved in making the LBG Guernsey Rally happen. See you again next year.

Who needs sleep when you have an edit to complete?
05th March 2025

I know I've already made complements about how fantastic the 2025 LBG Guernsey Rally was.... but maybe just one more time!

The event ran so smoothly and attracted huge crowds who enjoyed the noise, the speed, the cars and the close competition. The Island proved to be a great backdrop for the Sport and many visitors will go home and spread the word.

I've enjoyed a second 'bite' of the event as I've just completed the edit of my photos and the final two Galleries are now online if you are interested:
