Did you know that some photographers have a Super Power?

Yes, we have the ability to be in two places at the same time... well almost!

I exercised my Super Power on Sunday afternoon when two of my assignments were scheduled around the same time... but I was up to the job, and I have photos to prove it!

Luckily for me both photoshoots were within a hundred metres of each other so I didn't even need to run!

One event was the Charity Car Pull in aid of the St John Ambulance and Rescue Service Flying Christine III. The car in question was a highly modified vehicle which now floats! It is the intention to 'sail' it to Herm then onward to Sark. Good luck lads!

The second event also involved water as it was the annual BWCI Open Castle Swim which attracted a massive entry!

Photos of the first Round of the 2026 Rawlinson Cup at The Track between North AC v St Martins AC are now online.

This assignment was a little different to the norm as I was tasked with capturing a 'mug shot' of all the players in action.

At the start of a season Sports Editors like a few 'bankers' for use when a player is featured in reports.

I always find that as a photographer this is one of my hardest jobs! I end up taking more photos than my 'normal' coverage of a game (400 in this case) just to be sure I have a useable pic of (most) players - without any opposition players in the background!

This is too much stress for a man of my age but I'm now calming down after a bit of anger management therapy! This was the result from my capturing too many backs of heads, ugly grimaces, tongues out, head down, head up, eyes closed, opposition in the background..... I could go on!!!!

But I'm now calming down after a drop of anger management therapy (read beer)!

There was a friendly... but competitive atmosphere at the Northerners AC Club House on Saturday evening when I popped in to take a few photos of the 2026 Guernsey Grand Slam of Darts.

When you take into account that the favourite and eventual winner was a Jerseyman this was a little odd!

But don't forget that the sport of Darts is usually played in a pub or bar and those places are built around socialising with friends.

So it was fun to enjoy the banter and the beer whilst all the battles took place at the Oche!

The Guernsey School of Popular Music's Summer School finishes with a highlight gig to showcase the students busy week.

The week started with the formation of bands.... and of course the important choice of a (mostly weird) band name!

The following days were busy as students rehearsed a short set of live music. This was all building up to a crazy night at The Mermaid Tavern in Herm.

I use the word 'crazy' as I think that best describes how mad someone was when they thought of the idea of putting on a night with TEN student bands on stage... and not forgetting the Tutors Band that closes the entertainment.

Also you have to remember that all this happens in Herm.... there's no room for delays as the boat will sail home without you!

The 2026 edition of the SoPM Guernsey Summer School Gig was as good and as popular as ever and I really enjoyed capturing some of the special moments.

Two late arrivals from the editing desk are now online.

Looking back two weeks (it feels like longer!) the Guernsey Velo Club's Adventure Cycles Tour of Guernsey was in full swing.

Also, the Jersey and Guernsey Rounds of the British Hillclimb Championships featured in my diary. It was a busy week which was followed by a week that was filled by the All Terrain Challenge!

So back to the late arrivals mentioned above. I've only just got around to adding the final Tour of Guernsey photos.... Round 4 (Ronez Quarry) and Round 5 (Ronez Monmains) to my website.

With barely time to sleep, the last four weeks has seen daily events across the Islands and what seems like non-stop editing!

I still have lots to catch up with... but I have ticked the All Terrain Challenge box with photos of Day 7 in Herm now online.

This event really offers the 'challenge' in the title.

Herm has more hills than you'd think.... and running along Shell Beach is brutal (I've been told)!!!

Everyday of the week long ATC has been different but it really hits a high with the 5km and 10km runs set over a surprisingly tough course in the picturesque Herm Island.

So it's no surprise that, after the week of exertion, the runners relax and party in The Mermaid after completing the event. Nobody was bothered about diet and calories for the one night of revelry! Party On!

The headline says it all.

Clearly my plan to take things a little easier after reaching retirement age six years ago hasn't worked! Perhaps I never intended to stop doing what I love and as I'm still able to fill my days finding interesting things to photograph why stop?

And let's be honest, apart from the struggle to lift the bigger lenses, being a photographer is not the most demanding of jobs.... or is it?

There can certainly be pressure to complete assignments, achieve deadlines and it is so easy to fall behind on the edits when every day new work increases the back log.

The last couple of weeks have been packed solid with interesting work and I'm spending lots of time on the editing, slowly ticking the boxes.

Saturday saw the British National Hillclimb 'road show' arrive at Le Val des Terres and I was able to cover the whole event... and this edit is well underway with the first photo galleries now online.

First up are the Race Cars and photos of the scene around the racing.

I've had my own Tour of the Channel Islands during the last 10 days covering a real variety of events and sports... climbing lots of hills whilst loaded with kit!

Great fun but tiring (for a man of my age... oh, those aching bones)!

The edits are getting worked through and I've just uploaded photos of ROUND 6 of the Guernsey Velo Club's 'Tour of Guernsey'.

This time the riders visited the Motocross track on Sunday morning.

I've still got a couple more of the evening races to finish editing.

I popped over to the other isle on Tuesday to cover the Jersey rounds of the 2026 British National Hillclimb Championships.

The event was affected by the difficult timings of the ferry service, both the link from the mainland and the lack of inter-island services.
This problem was there for all to see in the Bouley Bay pit area where several of the usual 'top tier' competitors were absent.

So there wasn't the usual dynamic to the competition. Hopefully, given a year to sort things out, we will see a return to 'normality' in twelve months time.

The silver lining is that I understand the entry for the Guernsey Rounds is more like normal!

Guernsey's endurance athletes were out early on Sunday morning at Rocquaine for the Guernsey Triathlon Club's Sprint & Super Sprint Triathlon races.

At each event there seem to be new faces taking part in the swim/cycle/run with a genuine mix of abilities and ages. The one thread that is the same amongst all those taking part is that the real challenge is personal.... just to finish the race is a great achievement!

The Guernsey Velo Club's busy week consists of events all around the Island.

So the name is perfect! The Tour of Guernsey!

Riders are set a different challenge every day meaning that some of the courses will suit one rider... then the next day could be something that suits another.

Overall I thing the vast majority of riders are taking part just for the fun, the camaraderie and the variety of rides.

Photos of the Mike Thomas Trophy football at Victoria Park are now online.

Guernsey FC played the oldest Club in football Sheffield FC in what was a very early start to the season. Both sides lacked a couple of important 'regulars' but the game was certainly entertaining for the local supporters as Guernsey walked away with the trophy!

This friendly game also gave the GFC coach a chance to give a few youngsters a run-out.

Guernsey folk have always known how to entertain themselves and have a good time.

So it was great to see that the Guernsey Round Table have revived one of the highlights of a Guernsey summer... the Harbour Carnival held in and around St Peter Port harbour.

The day of the week changed from a Friday to Saturday but the entertainments still included live music, food stalls and activities for the kids.

And of course it wouldn't have been a harbour carnival without the traditional man powered flights, tug of war and the dinghy races! It was a certainty that if you took part, you went home well and truly wet through!

Let's hope the carnival is firmly back in the calendar so us Islanders can let our hair down, party and get wet again next year.

Following on from photographing the first game in the 2026 Cherry Godfrey Cup I returned to Victoria Park for the dramatic Cup Final between Jersey Women and the Isle of Man Women.

During normal time it was the Isle of Man who looked the stronger side.... until the final moments when Jersey scrambled an equaliser.

So on to penalties and all the tension supporters could handle as the keepers played their part by making saves. With the score at 5-5 somebody had to break the deadlock and it was Jersey who came out on top!

I spent an enjoyable hour chatting to a group of ladies who attended Blanchelande College between 1946 and 1958.

They met for tea and biscuits at Les Cotils and there was a collection of old photos to jog their memories. I wonder if todays photos.... in digital format.... will hold the same feeling of nostalgia in a few decades time?

Round 6 of the Guernsey Velo Club's 2026 Cross Country Series had an additional importance as it also incorporated the XC MTB Inter Insular races.

Several classes competed along a picturesque course laid out on L'ancresse Common.

Photographing some of the action was my first job on Sunday morning before heading off to St Peter Port for the Havelet Regatta.

What a fun afternoon it was at the Havelet Regatta. This Charity event is organised by a small and dedicated group of people in aid of the Guernsey Cheshire Home.

On Sunday the visitors to Havelet were well entertained and treated to lots of activities with an emphasis on keeping the children occupied.

The colourful line-up of games and puzzles really transported the older folk back through the decades to when life seemed so much simpler. The organisers had intentionally created activities free from electric power, child power was all they needed!

And I have to say that the children seemed to be captivated by this 'old time' experience.

I spent a lovely afternoon in Delancey Park at the Guernsey School of Popular Music's' 2026 'Party in the Park'.

The event showcasing students from SoPM has been running for four years and each time it is more popular.

Visitors have a chance to relax in the park and enjoy a free afternoon of entertainment with lots of additional stalls and games to keep a family occupied.

Last weekend I had the privilege of photographing the ceremony at Government House where the Governor Lt-General Sir Richard Cripwell named the islanders mentioned in the 2026 King's Birthday Honours.

The bright and warm day meant that over one hundred people who were invited to the garden party were able to enjoy the well kept and extensive grounds.

The harsh light wasn't the easiest for photographers but it certainly made the ladies colourful outfits come to life on this special day.
