How odd.... Two dry hillclimbs in a row!!
09th October 2024

Well, stranger things have happened - but not often!!

A dry day for the Petit Bot hillclimb is something of a rarity and for it to happen in the year that will be remembered for the amount of rainy events it makes it even more odd!!

But the racers patience was eventually rewarded at the end of the season with excellent results recorded at both the (dry) Imperial hill and Petit Bot.

My gallery of photos from Petit Bot and the Imperial can be viewed on my Galleries:

Lots of new records... including one of my own!!!!
02nd October 2024

For the first time this year the Hillclimbers had a dry event... well apart from a shower just as the day was starting!

But the Imperial hill tarmac was soon dry and the multitude of new records proved the racers weren't going to miss the opportunity!

It seems that I was also chasing a new record. I don't think I've ever taken so many photos at a hillclimb! Maybe it was sunstroke or the fact there were SEVEN runs!

I was going to delete a load of the photos but then I decided to spend a couple of days on the edit.... so there are now hundreds (around 800) of the Imperial hillclimb photos online.

Please consider how much time it takes for me to give this coverage. If you like a photo please don't just copy it, thanks.

Fifty-Five years old and still entertaining the crowds.....
22nd September 2024

Race 1 of the Guernsey Autocross Club's Winter Championship set the scene for what is to come.

There was a good size of entry for the first race of the season which led to some close racing.

It's great to see that as the Sport enters its 55th year it can still command a large crowd of spectators. I'm sure they are going to enjoy watching another entertaining and action packed season.

I've now uploaded my photos to a new Gallery. Click this link if you are interested:

First job after photographing the Motocross was having a shower......
21st September 2024

With the Moto-X track being bone dry it was always going to be a dusty race day!

But I think it turned out to be one of the dirtiest I can remember with rolling clouds of powdery dust billowing across the clifftops.

By chance and good fortune I parked my car up-wind but any of the marshals who parked down-wind would have found their vehicles heavily coated in dust after a full day of racing.

There's always a silver lining though, as the dust 'roosters' do make for interesting pics!

I've uploaded a full gallery of the action here:

You have to be special to get your own Gallery.....
31st August 2024

Photos of Saturday's Guernsey Kart & Motor Club Sprint meeting at Vazon Coast Road are now online.

You will find Galleries featuring all the racing, the CARS & BIKES and also THE KART!

You have to be pretty special to get a Photo Gallery just for yourself.... or maybe it's just that you were the ONLY KART competing in the Sprint!!?

It was worth the wait for a dry Hillclimb.....
26th August 2024

The GMC&CC Hillclimb started damply.... much like every previous visit to the 'Terres this year!

It's commonly thought that 2024 has been one of the wettest (worst) for Hillclimbing ever!

But this time the Motorsport Gods looked down kindly and they allowed the tarmac to dry as the day went on. So the racers were quick to enjoy the conditions and soon the records were dropping!

No time to talk.... too many photos to edit!
25th August 2024

Lots happening over the last weekend and what a great variety of events to photograph!

The edit of all of them will take a bit of time but I've already crossed one off the list.

Photos of the Guernsey Motor Cycle & Car Club 2-day Sandracing meeting are now online here:

I have nothing to say... the photos do the talking!
03rd August 2024

Sometimes I think I have too much to say (and you lot are too polite to tell me so.... well most of you!)

But this time I think I'll just let my photos do the talking.

Forget about 'wets' - Wellies were needed.....
22nd July 2024

Following on from the Jersey Rounds of the 2024 British National Hillclimb Championship the roadshow arrived in Guernsey in optimistic form.

The racing in Jersey was close and the conditions certainly offered all competitors the chance to push themselves to their limits.

Sadly something happened to the weather machine in the couple of days waiting for the Guernsey Rounds!

Damp is certainly a word that describes most of the day... with Monsoon probably more apt for the way the day finished! Luckily the very worst of the rain held off until the last few minutes of racing.

I spent the whole day trying to find the best action shots and these Galleries display my work....

What an amazing week of non-stop photography....
21st July 2024

I seem to remember... back in the day, that a week was seven days long. But the last week somehow feels like it was way more!

It was nothing like a 'normal' week... and it was fantastic for that.

It started with photographing the Guernsey Athletics Deloitte Challenge.

This was followed by Round 1 of the GVC Downhill Racing Tour of Guernsey.

Then a switch to photographing royalty at the visit of King Charles III and Queen Camilla as part of the media entourage!

What next? How about popping over to Jersey for the BHC National Hillclimb... up close to the action! Those pics then needed editing for two National publications and the BHC.

Next, back to Guernsey for Rounds 17 & 18 of the Championship, complete with torrential rain at the end of the event and an edit for the Guernsey Press.

And then (surely there aren't that many days in a week) there was time to photograph Round 7 of the Adventure Cycles Tour of Guernsey!

I've not made a count of how many photos but it amounts to an edit of many hundreds and then the uploads (still a work in progress)!

So an amazing week but I'd definitely need a younger body (or lighter kit) to keep up with this pace if it was a normal schedule!!

Spectacular Motorsport action at Bouley Bay hill.....
19th July 2024

Once again the Jersey Rounds of the British National Hillclimb Championship produced some spectacular and close racing at Bouley Bay hill.

Near perfect conditions gave supporters and competitors nothing to complain about and as the show now moves to Guernsey for the next two Rounds of the Championship we all hope for a repeat... but some of the weather forecasts are suggesting rain might arrive in the afternoon!

Fingers crossed this is wrong.... but a few shots of single seater 'rain roosters' always look good!

I've now uploaded comprehensive Galleries of all the action in Jersey.

Please click the link to take a look and share this post to get the word out, thanks.

No rest for a Sports photographer....
25th June 2024

Having completed my photography of the Triathlon early on Sunday morning the day was still young!

So I had booked in another assignment to fill the rest of the morning... it would be a shame to waste that time!

So it was straight off to The Track to photograph Round 6 of the GK&MC Karting Championship. As expected there was some fantastic, competitive and close racing.

Those photos are now online on the link below.

But once the Karting was done that still left the afternoon for more action! Check back later to see how I filled that time too!

Let the edits begin, Motorsport is first to the line.....
17th June 2024

Saturday was a busy one for me as I started the day at the Guernsey Kart & Motor Club hillclimb at Le Val des Terres.

The afternoon saw a change of venue and Sport as I headed to North Field.... no, not for football but boxing.

I was covering 20 BOUTS! Yes 20 BOUTS of the Boxfit King of the North event. As you can maybe imagine I think that edit will take a while!

But to keep up to date the link below will take you to the GK&MC Hillclimb photos:

Do you want some seaside sliding on the sands?
09th June 2024

Vazon Bay entertained the GMC&CC Sandracers once again on Saturday afternoon.

This Sport seems to be facing a challenge to keep the number of entries up at the moment which is a great shame.

Every Sport has its ups and downs and the long local history of Sandracing in Guernsey will surely guarantee its future.

The thrills (and tumbles) on the wide open sands of Vazon Bay offer racers a chance to slide and speed without obstruction!

I encourage any frustrated 'road racer' to pop down to Vazon Bay and maybe sign in to marshal the racing. By being 'close to the action' you will get a far better idea of the speeds on the beach.

You might even find yourself wanting a slice of the fun... whether you are on two wheels or four!

You can also get a feel for the racing if you take a look at my latest gallery here:

Everyone agreed that a day at the Twisty Sprint brings benefits....
26th May 2024

When I spoke to several riders at the Guernsey Motor Cycle & Car Club 'Twisty Sprint' event at The Track I had a different response each time.

My question was... Do you like having a Twisty Sprint in the Club calendar?

Of course everyone answered with a 'Yes'.... this was pretty obvious as they were all there taking part!

But it was the additional comments that 'split the pack' as some said they'd love a Twisty Sprint several times a year as they got so much racing... and it was so different to other events.

Another response was that they didn't really love the event but they were certain that by the end of the day their riding skills would be improved after negotiating the tight and twisty track so many times!

For a photographer I also enjoy the event as it is different. Sadly though it conflicted with another assignment limiting how much time I could spend at The Track.

Luckily I didn't have too far to go for the next job. The Guernsey Together Festival was literally just across the road!

I've now added a new Gallery featuring a few Twisty Sprint photos and I'm about to begin the long edit of two days of Festival pics!

Damp conditions spoil the fun......
08th May 2024

After experiencing a box full of smiles at the 'Ronez MTB Mayhem' I popped along to the GMC&CC Hillclimb at Le Val des Terres.

Here there where less smiles around. Why was this you ask?
Well there is one easy way to spoil a Hillclimbers day.... and that is rain!

You guessed it, the hill was damp from showers.

This also managed to wipe the smile off my face too as in those conditions it becomes so hard to capture 'dynamic' photos as the racers, understandably, play it safe!

But I still took a few pics and they are now online here:

Young karters still have an abundance of enthusiasm.....
21st April 2024

I had the chance to visit The Track on Sunday for Round 4 of the Karting Championship.

I was impressed by the continuing development of the young racers. Certainly they display the same passion for the sport as the 'old timers' and there was some fantastic racing.

I tried to capture the best action and there is now a Gallery of photos for you to look at.

Please share the link to help get the word out, thanks.

It was great to be out on the hill again.....
02nd April 2024

The sunny Easter Monday (well until the end of the afternoon!) gave the Hill Climbers a chance to blow the cobwebs away at Le Val des Terres.

It's always exciting to see some new machinery which we will be able to follow during the season.

I was out alongside numerous other photographers trying to capture the action and I've uploaded my work to new galleries.

Two days of Motocross in the dust - yes I needed a shower....
31st March 2024

The first thing on my list after getting home from the 2-Day Motocross event - even before starting the edit - was to have a shower.

The work that had been done to prepare the track really paid off. It was in perfect condition. This was probably helped by the lack of heavy rain for a few days. And about time too!

However this resulted in the drying track and continuous Motocross racing throwing a mist of fine dust across the whole cliff-top track.

But after a dip in the shower I have been hard at the edit knowing that the busy Easter of Sports photography will lead to a pile of editing.

My final edit of the MX photos show what a competitive two days of racing we enjoyed

Chasing the action at the Guernsey 2-Day Trials event.....
25th March 2024

Photographing the 2-Day Guernsey Trials meeting can be quite a headache. At least that is what I had by the end of the weekend!

It might be that I tried to cover just a bit too much Sport in three days (yes it was a long weekend!) but that's another story.

The problem with Trials is that it's nice to visit a selection of Sections to offer a change of background. But this means travelling around and it is so easy to completely miss some of the riders as I'm always in the wrong place!

So I've just made my excuses, if there are no photos of you, sorry!
I did manage quite a few pics though... click the link to view them:
