No rest for a Sports photographer....
25th June 2024

Having completed my photography of the Triathlon early on Sunday morning the day was still young!

So I had booked in another assignment to fill the rest of the morning... it would be a shame to waste that time!

So it was straight off to The Track to photograph Round 6 of the GK&MC Karting Championship. As expected there was some fantastic, competitive and close racing.

Those photos are now online on the link below.

But once the Karting was done that still left the afternoon for more action! Check back later to see how I filled that time too!

Let the edits begin, Motorsport is first to the line.....
17th June 2024

Saturday was a busy one for me as I started the day at the Guernsey Kart & Motor Club hillclimb at Le Val des Terres.

The afternoon saw a change of venue and Sport as I headed to North Field.... no, not for football but boxing.

I was covering 20 BOUTS! Yes 20 BOUTS of the Boxfit King of the North event. As you can maybe imagine I think that edit will take a while!

But to keep up to date the link below will take you to the GK&MC Hillclimb photos:

Do you want some seaside sliding on the sands?
09th June 2024

Vazon Bay entertained the GMC&CC Sandracers once again on Saturday afternoon.

This Sport seems to be facing a challenge to keep the number of entries up at the moment which is a great shame.

Every Sport has its ups and downs and the long local history of Sandracing in Guernsey will surely guarantee its future.

The thrills (and tumbles) on the wide open sands of Vazon Bay offer racers a chance to slide and speed without obstruction!

I encourage any frustrated 'road racer' to pop down to Vazon Bay and maybe sign in to marshal the racing. By being 'close to the action' you will get a far better idea of the speeds on the beach.

You might even find yourself wanting a slice of the fun... whether you are on two wheels or four!

You can also get a feel for the racing if you take a look at my latest gallery here:

Everyone agreed that a day at the Twisty Sprint brings benefits....
26th May 2024

When I spoke to several riders at the Guernsey Motor Cycle & Car Club 'Twisty Sprint' event at The Track I had a different response each time.

My question was... Do you like having a Twisty Sprint in the Club calendar?

Of course everyone answered with a 'Yes'.... this was pretty obvious as they were all there taking part!

But it was the additional comments that 'split the pack' as some said they'd love a Twisty Sprint several times a year as they got so much racing... and it was so different to other events.

Another response was that they didn't really love the event but they were certain that by the end of the day their riding skills would be improved after negotiating the tight and twisty track so many times!

For a photographer I also enjoy the event as it is different. Sadly though it conflicted with another assignment limiting how much time I could spend at The Track.

Luckily I didn't have too far to go for the next job. The Guernsey Together Festival was literally just across the road!

I've now added a new Gallery featuring a few Twisty Sprint photos and I'm about to begin the long edit of two days of Festival pics!

Damp conditions spoil the fun......
08th May 2024

After experiencing a box full of smiles at the 'Ronez MTB Mayhem' I popped along to the GMC&CC Hillclimb at Le Val des Terres.

Here there where less smiles around. Why was this you ask?
Well there is one easy way to spoil a Hillclimbers day.... and that is rain!

You guessed it, the hill was damp from showers.

This also managed to wipe the smile off my face too as in those conditions it becomes so hard to capture 'dynamic' photos as the racers, understandably, play it safe!

But I still took a few pics and they are now online here:

Young karters still have an abundance of enthusiasm.....
21st April 2024

I had the chance to visit The Track on Sunday for Round 4 of the Karting Championship.

I was impressed by the continuing development of the young racers. Certainly they display the same passion for the sport as the 'old timers' and there was some fantastic racing.

I tried to capture the best action and there is now a Gallery of photos for you to look at.

Please share the link to help get the word out, thanks.

It was great to be out on the hill again.....
02nd April 2024

The sunny Easter Monday (well until the end of the afternoon!) gave the Hill Climbers a chance to blow the cobwebs away at Le Val des Terres.

It's always exciting to see some new machinery which we will be able to follow during the season.

I was out alongside numerous other photographers trying to capture the action and I've uploaded my work to new galleries.

Two days of Motocross in the dust - yes I needed a shower....
31st March 2024

The first thing on my list after getting home from the 2-Day Motocross event - even before starting the edit - was to have a shower.

The work that had been done to prepare the track really paid off. It was in perfect condition. This was probably helped by the lack of heavy rain for a few days. And about time too!

However this resulted in the drying track and continuous Motocross racing throwing a mist of fine dust across the whole cliff-top track.

But after a dip in the shower I have been hard at the edit knowing that the busy Easter of Sports photography will lead to a pile of editing.

My final edit of the MX photos show what a competitive two days of racing we enjoyed

Chasing the action at the Guernsey 2-Day Trials event.....
25th March 2024

Photographing the 2-Day Guernsey Trials meeting can be quite a headache. At least that is what I had by the end of the weekend!

It might be that I tried to cover just a bit too much Sport in three days (yes it was a long weekend!) but that's another story.

The problem with Trials is that it's nice to visit a selection of Sections to offer a change of background. But this means travelling around and it is so easy to completely miss some of the riders as I'm always in the wrong place!

So I've just made my excuses, if there are no photos of you, sorry!
I did manage quite a few pics though... click the link to view them:

Sometimes it's good to have a back-up sport....
18th February 2024

Sometimes it is good to have so many different sports to photograph.

The variety offers a backup when something goes wrong with one genre as probably there is an alternative to bail me out... I'm talking about having a sport or two to photograph each weekend.

To give you an example. The wet winter we have experienced has meant that many football games have been cancelled due to the pitch being soft, wet and muddy. But, as I stated, I usually have a back-up plan!

In this case? Well I name a sport that loves soft ground and MUD. It can only be Motocross!

I headed off to Pleinmont on Saturday morning to photograph the GK&MC championship racing and the mud was just about perfect!

I had to leave early to be at Port Soif for a 2pm footie game - and just to prove that sometimes all things turn out well - the pitch was perfect too. Happy days!

Splashing about on the sands in old bangers.....
11th February 2024

I was late in arriving at Chouet for the latest Autocross meeting but it was still worth making the effort. The different track layout offered some great shots.

There was plenty of sand... well we were on a beach! But it was the pools of water that were the stars. It's hard to beat the drama of a Banger at full chat splashing through standing water!

My gallery of photos is now online if you are interested:

Back on the beach in the sun.....
29th January 2024

Those amazing men and women in their stripped out Bangers were back on the Chouet sands for the first time in 2024 on Sunday.

Each of the cars has to be stripped of all glass to avoid polluting the white sands. But that alone is not enough as it was clear that the winter evenings had been spent removing EVERYTHING that isn't essential to making the car move!

Extra modifications are also made to the cooling systems to avoid radiators becoming clogged with sand. Roll cages and 'crash plates' are also added to the sides. Better safe than sorry!

All this work removes the individual identity of the cars and often it is nearly impossible to recognise the make and model!

I popped along to Chouet to capture some of the action and my photos can be viewed by clicking this link:

Trials up the slippery slopes.....
04th December 2023

One of the Motorsport events to watch that I recommend to people who have time spare on a Sunday is Trials.

If you are looking for free entertainment on a Sunday afternoon you will enjoy following the riders as they attack impossible slopes, rocks and tree stumps on their machines.

All you really need to do is wrap up against the cold and wear sturdy footwear because you will be tackling some slippery slopes too!

If you can't be bothered, all is not lost, because you can always view my photos. 🙂

Photos of yesterday's meeting are now online here:

Perfect conditions for riders and 'togs....
11th November 2023

Motocross racers like it messy and muddy... but there are limits too.

Photographers also like it messy and muddy... but for different reasons.

So when the mess and mud turn up in perfect measure we are all happy. The riders can slide about to their hearts content and me, as a photographer, can go home with a few interesting photos.

The 2023 Karting championship reaches the final rounds.....
22nd October 2023

As the GK&MC 2023 Kart Championship nears the end the competition is close and open with the podium places still up for grabs.

I was down at The Track today to photograph some of the racing and the action didn't disappoint. There are a few 'new guns' featuring in the racing and this excites me for the future. Have we got a future champion in the making?

I've added a new gallery of my photos here:

Motocross photography through a haze of dust......
16th October 2023

This was my second try at finding new angles of view at the revised Motocross track. It was dry and dusty and I ended the morning covered in fine powder!

But I'm starting to work out a few decent positions. You can check out my photos if you like:

The Bangers hit the beach for Round-2....
15th October 2023

Well it wont last.... it never does!

But we enjoyed another dry and bright day for Round 2 of the Autocross Club Winter Banger racing championship.

The racing surface of the sand looked to be in good condition but something took its toll on the cars and drivers as the heats saw many cars drop out with reliability issues.

Proof of the racing wisdom... 'to finish first, first you have to finish'. So true!

The new gallery of pics can now be viewed here:

I needed a reminder.... but it's now sorted!
10th October 2023

I've had a timely reminder that I hadn't yet uploaded my pics of the last Trials bike event... so I've now sorted that out!

Records drop as the sun shines at Petit Bot hill.....
08th October 2023

Petit Bot Hillclimb in perfect dry weather.... is that even a thing?!?

Well in 2023 that was what we had and with competitors having a chance of 10 runs there were plenty of opportunities to practice the fastest lines.

So records were lowered when racers realized that this was a moment to make hay whilst the sun shines. No-one knows what the 2024 annual visit to Petit Bot hill will bring... but we now know it doesn't have to always rain!!

I only had the morning available to be at the hill as I was booked to photograph the Guernsey Press 'Pride of Guernsey' Awards.

However I still managed quite a few pics. They're online here:

New track layout, new challenges......
01st October 2023

It wasn't only the Motocross racers who had to learn the layout of the new Motocross track.

With so many changes I've lost most of my old 'photo positions' which meant I had to recce the area before starting to work.

The new design has removed a few of the jumps and my first impression is that the racing has much more 'flow'. But maybe this will mean fewer 'dynamic' photos? I reserve judgement for now.

My first attempt of capturing the action at the new track is now online here:
