Rock of Ages-9... best ever?
29th April 2011

If you judge the success of an Event by the number of people attending then Mark Guillou's Rock of Ages-9 has to be the best so far!
But of course the real success is made by the quality of the Bands playing. And here again many will consider this the best so far.
Mark is a great supporter of young new talent and once again most of the Bands were still of 'school age' but performed like they had been doing this for years.
With Rock of Ages getting bigger all the time you will have to arrive early for the next one to avoid the disappointment of not getting into a 'full house'.
If you missed the latest, why not check-out my picture Gallery to see what you missed. The first three bands of the six that played are now on-line - MX2, China Aster & Re-Discovering Pluto.

Four more Galleries of Band pics...
28th April 2011

The Bonneville Barons were supported by no less than four Bands when they played at The Fermain Tavern last weekend! Three of the four were mostly formed from different combinations of members of Rawcuz Crowzz - Alderneys very own Band. These guys (and Gal) had a busy night!
I have now updated the Gallery to include a few pics of each of these support acts.
Take a look at Coalbox Generals, Rawcuz Crowzz, Gent's Outfitters & Crash n Slide.

Bonneville Barons play at The Fermain Tavern...
25th April 2011

The Fermain Tavern continue to put great Bands on their stage.
This time it was a Band that, to be honest, I hadn't heard of before... sorry guys! The Bonneville Barons were headlining at the 'Tav' last weekend supported by Coalbox Generals, Rawcuz Crowzz, Gent's Outfitters & Crash n Slide.
I arrived not knowing what to expect and left 'well impressed' by the 'Barons'... good to listen too with great stage presence. They could play a bit too! Hopefully we will see them back in Guernsey soon. Don't miss them if they return.
I have added a new Gallery of Bonneville Barons pictures. A selection of pics featuring the other Bands will follow.

AC/DC-UK play at The Doghouse...
22nd April 2011

I was reminded how well The Doghouse can work as a live music venue when I watched the tribute band AC/DC-UK play last week. There was a good sized crowd who were clearly 'up for a bit of AC/DC'. The Band were great. My only complaint is made as a photographer... the lighting wasn't particularly good for me. Not enough to spoil a great gig though.

More from the archives... Fade to Grey in glorious colour!
15th April 2011

My ambition to update this new web site with my archive of pics continues. The 'Bands' Galleries are now up to the letter F (only 20 letters to go!). The latest pics show Fade to Grey playing at 'The Best 80s Party in the World' at Beau Sejour and a gig they played at the Fermain Tavern. If you're into 'Glam Rock' then this is the band for you!

Brutus Stonefist... the Gallery just gets bigger!
03rd April 2011

One of my 'most photographed' bands have had their Gallery filled even further! Brutus Stonefist play quite a few gigs each year and I seem to end up at many of them. Inevitably, I have many pictures of these guys!
The latest additions were from last weekends fundraising gig at the Fermain Tavern to raise funds for the next Guernsey Arts Commission/Twist Records/GBG CD which will feature tracks from many Guernsey Bands.
The Gallery has now been updated.
By the way, have you tried viewing the pics using the 'Slideshow'. Click on this option at the top of the page when entering a Gallery.
Another way to navigate through the various pictures is to use the arrow keys on your keyboard.

John Wesley Stone now have a picture Gallery...
28th March 2011

The list of Bands that still need to be added to this new web site remains very long, but I have just ticked another off with the addition of a Gallery featuring John Wesley Stone.
A few weekends ago I photographed the Band at a gig in the Grande Rock Bar & Bistro. As always it was a lively one! The problem for me was that it was really dark... no exageration! I have to thank Nikon for getting me a few 'keepers'. The D3s is a star performer in low light conditions.
I have also played around with a few of the pics - I think the 'grungy' style suits the band. I very rarely have time to make any changes to pictures and almost all those you see on this site are straight out of the camera. It has been fun to get back into Photoshop.
The JWS Gallery also features pics from my archives.

Beechy Colclough makes a welcome return to the stage at The Fermain Tavern...
27th March 2011

Beechy Colclough, a name that has been associated closely with the music heritage of the Fermain Tavern, returned to the stage last weekend with his classy band and he entertained a good crowd of followers and friends.
Beechy featured on the Guernsey scene for a number of years before leaving the Island. People of my age probably regard that period as the 'Golden Age'... oh, bring back our youth!
Well, for a short time on Saturday we could share some time with this charismatic performer who was so well connected in the music industry he was once able to give Elton John a call and get him to appear on stage at this 'out of the way' local pub venue. Surely the thing of legends!
I have added a new picture Gallery featuring the Beechy Colclough Band on stage at the Fermain Tavern.

Why not order a Montage of a few of your favourite pics?
17th March 2011

A very popular choice with my customers is a 'custom designed' Photo Montage. Each one is individually created with a choice of your favourite pics. It's best not to choose too many - five works really well - and I will e-mail a low resolution sample to you for approval before producing the final print.
An A2 print (sized approx 22" x 16") cost £55. You can also choose to have the montage supplied on a Canvas. A 24" x 16" Canvas is £80 with the largest 30" x 20" at £120.
You can E-MAIL ME or phone me on 07781 144525 with the picture numbers or to arrange to view my complete database of your pictures.

A few more updates to the Archives...
04th March 2011

It always amazes me how a picture can bring back the memories and emotions of a past event or special occasion. I have been 'reliving' a highlight for me in 2008 when I photographed Jersey Live.
This was the year when The Zutons & Prodigy headlined. Photographing Prodigy 'from the pit' was something special! I loved the high energy of their performance and the way these guys new how to 'work for the camera'. This is something that I have noted with many of the biggest names - they understand the power of a well captured 'moment' and will work hard for us photogs by 'throwing shapes and making eye contact'.
The result should be to the benefit of both the Artist and the Photog - an image that defines the performance for both parties.
I always encourage local bands to try and understand that there can be more to a performance than simply playing and singing and some of my favourite pics are of the local guys and gals that work hard at 'total performance'.
But I digress! I have been updating the Jersey Live Galleries for 2008. New band pics include: The Prodigy, The Zutons, We are Scientists, Velofax, These New Puritans & The Valentines.

Georgie Fame joins the list of Big names who have played at the Fermain Tavern...
28th February 2011

The Fermain Tavern in Guernsey can add another big star of the music scene to its list of 'greats' that have played in this intimate venue. It is unlikely that any 'pub' of similar size has had so many established names on its stage... even Elton John has played there!
Last Friday saw Georgie Fame take his turn and the comment from all the attentive audience was that he was well worth seeing.
I was particulaly interested to see the wide spread of ages and also the varied 'musical background' of the audience... this is surely a testiment to the fact that a great musician can transcend across all.
I have added a new Gallery of pictures featuring Georgie Fame.

She Haunts the Roads play at the Fermain Tavern...
21st February 2011

I only managed to catch the last few songs of their set but I was impressed again to hear this fairly new band when they played at the Fermain Tavern last weekend... She Haunts the Roads is one to watch.
The last time I photographed She Haunts the Roads was at Rock of Ages7 and they are in the line-up for Rock of Ages8 this weekend. Search on Facebook for details.

The ambition to bring the archive of pictures over to this new web site continues...
20th February 2011

I didn't think how much time it would take to bring my archive of pictures over to this new web site but the task continues!
I have collected a huge number of pictures of Bands playing many venues in the Channel Islands. Today there has been a big update to the Jersey Live Gallery.

Massive updates to the Jersey Live Galleries...
16th February 2011

With a new year comes the new season of Festivals and Events. I always look forward to the Spring months as the longer days help you look optimistically at the year ahead. With the Vale Earth Fair making a welcome return and a bigger Chaos Festival already lined up the year was already looking a bit special.
But now it looks as though a new festival is going to happen in the form of The Guernsey Festival of Performing Arts in July. This all looks positive. THE GUERNSEY FESTIVAL
The biggest and most established Festival in the Channel Islands is definitely Jersey Live... and again this promises to be bigger and better for 2011. JERSEY LIVE HOME PAGE
I have been lucky to be invited to photograph Jersey Live for several years and have made some major updates to the Galleries to showcase some of these pictures. These include pictures of: Chase & Status, Emily Loizeau, Fenech-Soler, Groove Armada, Jamaica, Kate Nash, Peggie Sue, Pirate Video Company and Professor Green.
A picture Gallery showing the great atmosphere at Jersey Live 2010 has also been added.

'Things to do Guernsey' promote 'The Snooker Legends Tour'...
06th February 2011

Karen Solway's 'Things to do Guernsey' promoted The Snooker Legends Tour at Beau Sejour in front of a sell-out crowd last Saturday.
The Tour consisted of players Jimmy White, Dennis Taylor, John Parrott and Cliff Thorburn with John Virgo as commentator/host.
A relaxed and informal evening of entertainment showcased the talented ex-World Champions and top-ranking players with plenty of humour and crowd participation. Main sponsors of the event were Rihoy & Son and Slattery Decor.

Whilst in the Island, Jimmy White also played a private exhibition match against the Guernsey Snooker team for a local business family. Pictures of this Event have been added to a password protected Gallery.

Gay Army are on the march!
03rd February 2011

I have just updated the Galleries to include the pics that I have taken of Gay Army. This Band remains one of my favourite local groups.
They are certainly a Band for the 'big occasion' and have played many of the Channel Islands biggest Festivals including Jersey & Guernsey Live, The Vale Earth Fairs & The Greenman Chaos Festivals. Take a look at the Galleries by clicking on the link... you will find further links to the other Festivals.
