Is it too early to build optimism for our U18 Guernsey football?
28th January 2025

As I get older I have to look to the youth of our Island for energy and optimism.

This is the case across all my interests.... sports and live music in particular.

It is the young that approach challenges without fear and the baggage of failure... oh to be eighteen again, eh!

This youthful energy was on show at the KGV when the Guernsey U18's met Rangers in the Stranger Cup. The U18's really made the Rangers run for possession of the ball and their skills and confidence with the ball made me optimistic that in the next few years in the Muratti we could see Guernsey face up to our historic rivals across the water and come out on top!

I've added a new Gallery showing some of the action during the U18's 4-0 win.

The Trial bikes hit the trail... and the beach!
21st January 2025

The Guernsey Motor Cycle & Car Club Trials season is well underway and I managed to pop along on Sunday afternoon.

I visited two of the venues which resulted in a nice variety of shots.

Several sections had been set up at the St Germain site. The other sections were at the northern end of Vazon Bay. I think there was general agreement that the beach sections over the loose boulders took no prisoners!

But I was happy to capture a Gallery of photos that illustrated the variety of challenges.

The long and winding track sapped the riders energy.....
20th January 2025

The Motocross track had a busy weekend as it hosted a Motocross Practice meeting on Saturday which was followed by a Guernsey Velo Club event on Sunday morning.

The track surface looked in great condition having benefitted from the prep work by the Motocross guys.

This set the scene for the GVC Cyclocross race on Sunday with the organisers setting a long and varied track utilizing some of the roads around Pleinmont headland then diverting onto the MX track for some more technical challenges.

The amount of gradient combined with the loose surfaces certainly sapped the strength of the riders but many still managed a smile for the camera!

I've uploaded my photos to a new Gallery. Click the link to view them:

The last of the triple-header is sorted...
18th January 2025

The last of the triple-header is sorted!

Friday's run around chasing the Sports action was busy.... but fun.

When three Sports all have the same start time of 7.30pm a photographer could really make good use of a Delorean to help with a bit of time travelling!

Sadly I had to make do with my CLA 45s and the 35mph local speed limits!

But I managed to tick all the boxes and photos of the last of the three games I photographed are now online.

The Strangers Cup game between Vale Rec and Rovers ended in a 1-1 draw and sadly all two goals had been scored before I arrived. But you can still view a small gallery of my pics by clicking this link:

Busy, busy, busy... more updates
17th January 2025

It's been pretty hectic so far in January 2025. Now the holiday break is over it seems that every Sport wants to get back up to full speed.

I've visited Beau Sejour a couple of times to cover the Basketball championships and this time was for the Woman's League.

My photos of the Oracle Diamonds v Ravenscroft game are now online.

The gallery is a bit limited as I only had a very short time there as I was also assigned to photograph two football games on the same evening.

The complication was that they were at three different venues and they all started at 7.30pm!!

This required a chase around.... but I managed, just!

Stranger Cup football - North v Guernsey U18 photos.....
16th January 2025

The Stranger Cup football is underway and I was assigned to cover two of the games on Friday night. I also photographed a Women's Basketball League game at Beau Sejour.

As all three games started at 7.30pm I had to juggle my time between the photography and the travel to the three different venues!

Luckily at that time in the evening the roads are empty so I didn't suffer from any delays and it felt good to complete all the work in the limited time.

One of the Stranger Cup games was between North and the Guernsey Under 18's. The North took the win and proved to be stronger and more experienced than the youngsters but the U18 squad improve every time I see them play.

Say bye bye to another two points.....
15th January 2025

I'm beginning to think that the FA refs just keep adding minutes of extra time to the GFC games until we concede a late goal! Whether this results in the local side losing the game or maybe just giving the opposition a draw to go home with!

Sadly the last option was how Saturdays game finished when GFC played Bagshot Lea at Footes Lane in the Isthmian South Central League.

At the end of ninety minutes Guernsey were one up... but the clock hadn't stopped yet! And sure enough, even though it took an extra TEN minutes to happen, the final whistle only blew once the visitors had been awarded a penalty... and scored!

Once again GFC paid a costly price by dropping a couple of points that they really can't afford to squander.

My photos of the game are here:

Welcome to my 'happy place'......
13th January 2025

A few hours spent in January under the sun on a Guernsey beach would be a box to tick for many of us.

But maybe quite a few of those ticks would be erased when people find out that they would be sharing the sands with a bunch loud Banger racers!

However there are the mad ones, like me, who think that there are few better reasons to pop down to Chouet than to photograph the Autocross racing. This is why I was on the sands on Sunday.

So after my 'happy time' on the beach it was back to the office to edit and upload a few pics to the website. Click the link if you want to see how much fun it can be:

Raiders shine in the winter sun......
12th January 2025

Saturday turned out to be a double header for me as once I'd photographed the U16 Netball I headed to Footes Lane for the Rugby clash between Guernsey Raiders and Havant RFC.

In the glorious bright weather it was an easy job to capture some on the action with Raiders putting on the style and scoring an impressive win, 40-14, over the visitors.

I've added a Gallery of photos to my website. Click the link to view:

Guernsey U16 Netballers are on the up.....
11th January 2025

The Guernsey Under 16's Netball team faced a strong squad from Rushmore today at St Sampsons High. Our local girls put up a great fight and at the halfway point they matched the visitors.

Sadly as the game progressed the Guernsey side dropped behind but the strength of their performance signalled their improving form.

The effort and cost of giving the young squad a chance to play at a higher level is paying off as they build their confidence and skills.

Watch this space as I think greater things lie ahead.

I've added a Gallery featuring my photos here:

It's fun updating the Galleries on my NEW WEBSITE......
09th January 2025

I've managed to find some time over the holiday period to update and add new Galleries to the NEW WEBSITE.

It's a near impossible job for me to bring all my photos over to the new website as there are many hundreds of Galleries and hundreds of thousands of photos.

But I'm keen to give the new website a fair representation of my photographic work over the decades so when I find a few spare hours I'll continue with this chore!

So, at the moment, if you are looking for photos of a particular event or personalities you might have to use the search option on BOTH sites! But remember that ALL NEW photos from 2023 onwards are only added to the new site. Good luck and happy hunting!

Here are links to each of the websites. Happy hunting.

Brutal winds make the first XC of 2025 a battle....
01st January 2025

Around ninety hardy islanders faced the storm on a very blustery L'Ancresse Common for the traditional New Years Day Guernsey Athletics handicapped Cross Country run.

In those conditions there really is nowhere to hide and shelter from the high winds on the seaside common.

Perhaps the only small bonus is that after battling the head wind the course turns back on itself and the wind becomes a welcome aid.

The 2025 event was well handicapped with a spread of start times over more than 30 minutes but it was impressive to see the finish straight packed by all levels of runners.

I've added a few photos featuring the racing:

The Christmas 'Blues' for GFC.....
29th December 2024

GFC suffered from a dose of post Christmas 'Blues' at Footes Lane on Saturday.

The dose of blue came in the form of the visiting Hartley Wintney's kit.

Sadly Guernsey FC are still struggling to find a good run of form and whilst they seemed to match the visitors fairly well in the first half the tide turned in the second half and a result of 0-2 was about right... maybe even flattering GFC.

But maybe a positive can be taken from the size of the crowd - over 600!

There's clearly support for our local lads and, optimistically, when we all de-camp to the new ground the scores will turn to positives too?

I've uploaded my photos of the game here:

Boxing Day Cross Country 2024.....
26th December 2024

It seems that the Cross Country crowd took their preparations for the 2024 Boxing Day Cross Country seriously as I didn't see any signs of hangovers at L'ancresse for the annual run.

The same cannot be said about some of the spectators and supporters. In fact I know that one of the photographers was quite pleased for the morning walk in the fresh air.

It did me the world of good!!

Seasons greetings to you all.

My photos are in a gallery here:

It felt a little like deja vu.......
22nd December 2024

GFC go three up and even miss a penalty in the first half too!

Why then was I stressed at half time when we had that comfortable lead?

Well you may remember what happened the last time GFC were in the same position?

But no need to worry this time as Santa delivered a well earned and worthy win for our local lads.

As the New Year approaches and the new Victoria Park ground becomes the home of GFC I have an idea that 2025 suddenly looks like it's going to turn into an exciting finale!

Raiders Ladies are in spectacular form....
16th December 2024

Women's Rugby in Guernsey is enjoying great success at the moment and congratulations have to go to the Guernsey Raiders Ladies on their spectacular win over the visiting Crawley Ladies on Sunday.

I think the final result of 68-5 says it all!

It's safe to say that all the action was at one end of Footes Lane and I was able to capture some of the best.

Vale Earth Fair 2024 photos.... worth the wait?
12th December 2024

We've reached the time of year when I like to tidy up my work and I've just realised that I never completed the edit of my photos of the 2024 The Vale Earth Fair.

Maybe I'll blame the fact that as the decades pass my recovery rate after a festival seems to take longer and longer!

So, once I noticed my error I had to fix it.... and it's now done!

I managed to cover quite a lot of the VEF this year and there's a big Gallery featuring hundreds of photos of the highlights on my website.

Our nerves are shredded at Footes Lane.....
02nd December 2024

Supporters of Guernsey FC were left as nervous wrecks and in tatters after the visit to Footes Lane by Moneyfields for their Isthmian South Central League fixture.

We were all left wondering how GFC could score four goals and hold a lead over of the visitors for the whole game... until the sixth minute of extra time when the GFC defence allowed Moneyfields to scramble a winning goal!

The final score of 4-5 does tell a story but not the full one as GFC have often looked the better side this season but a leaky defence ruins their chance of victory!

So on we go to the next game. Surely it can't be such a roller-coaster again... can it?

My photos of the game are now online. Click the link to view them:
