KGV was swarming with the next generation of football stars....
30th May 2021

KGV was alive with youthful energy, excitement and passion for the game of football when the Rangers Super Seven Tournament hit the turf... and all weather pitches.

I was assigned to capture some of the action and atmosphere for the Guernsey Press. This was the most enjoyable job for me. The only disappointment was that I had a full list of assignments meaning there was a very limited time slot to complete the work.

However with games lasting just eight minutes it really was none-stop action!

This gallery displays my pics...

Festival fun in the sun. Just what the Doctor ordered!
29th May 2021

The Guernsey Together Festival owes its existence to the Covid-19 virus.

'Normal' life in 2020 through 2021 was heavily affected and restricted by the outbreak of Covid-19 and as time passed we all yearned for the return to whatever was important to each of us.

For many this meant enjoying live music and the social scene that surrounds it.

So the Guernsey Together Festival was born.

The first Guernsey Together Festival was a sell-out and was blessed with great weather. I was a bit skeptical about how this new festival, which only came about as a 'reaction' to the Covid-19 lock-down, would turn out.

But in the end it was a great success with just a few teething problems. All the line-up was made up of local bands and truly showcased the depth of talent we have here in Guernsey.

But what about 2022? Will there be a need for big name headliners if this festival is to grow and find a permanent place on the calendar?

I've added the first two Galleries featuring the festival atmosphere and the Dance Tent.

Check back later to see the Main Stage bands.

Twelve Rotax Senior Max karts.... motorsport magic
24th May 2021

Round 5 of the Guernsey Kart & Motor Club Kart championship saw one of the best entries for some time. When you get twelve Rotax Senior Max karts starting a race the excitement levels rise along with the noise!

Karting seems to be entering another 'golden period' and I think that the building momentum is going to generate even more interest.

Even a photographer can feel reinvigorated by the increase in action! I hope you like the gallery of pics that can be viewed by clicking the link below. Hopefully you agree that they illustrate some of the close racing.

Sadly I had a busy agenda on Sunday which restricted how long I could spend at The Track. But there will be a next time.

Please remember that I put my pictures online for your enjoyment. Hopefully you understand that they are not there simply for people to copy. Photography is my income.

If you want friends to view pics of your racing just send them a web link to the pics. That way you can share them with others and I at least get another click on my website views, thanks.

There is also a Buy Now button (a gentle reminder!)

Vazon Bay.... the perfect home of Sand Racing
16th May 2021

The sands of Vazon Bay were in near perfect condition for Round 3 of the Guernsey Motor Cycle & Car Club 2021 Sand Racing championship.

Officials had made full use of the dry and quite level beach by marking out a huge track. The outer oval extended well towards the rocks on the 'wet bend'... which wasn't wet this time!

With such a large outer track the twisty infield circuit allowed the MX bikers a bit more freedom.

Sadly there were only two 'Sliders' but a full entry of MX bikes ensured there was non-stop action for the spectators.

Basketball championship action completes the season.....
15th May 2021

I was originally booked to only take pics of the final game in the 2021 men's basketball championship. But at the last minute an earlier job was cancelled so I arrived at St Sampsons High just in time to capture a few pics of the final ladies game of the season.

The concluding game of the 2021 Ladies Basketball championship began in the knowledge that Ravenscroft were already champions. As the game progressed it was clear that they were worthy winners as they took an impressive lead over Le Mont Saint.

But the spirit within the Le Mont Saint team kept them smiling and it was clear that the players were enjoying their freedom in Guernsey to live a sporting life 'as normal' and Covid free!

The main game was between Mayside and Skipton men's.

This was a crucial end of season game with Mayside needing to win by a sizable margin to get their name on the trophy. But ultimately it was Skipton who showed the extra commitment and skill to take the win and the seasons championship.

I've added two Galleries featuring action from these two games:

All aglow in the evening sun......
11th May 2021

Sylvans scored an impressive 5-2 win over Belgrave Wanderers when they met at St Peters in the 2021 Guernsey FA Cup quarter-finals.

I'm guessing that the early 18:15 start was to ensure that the daylight would last until the end of the game as the pitch up at St Peters doesn't have any lighting.

Of course this was just what the photog's ordered... none of us fancy trying to capture the action under poor levels of light!

As a special bonus the early evening was blessed with glorious warm illumination and once I was perched low down and sheltered from the strong wind I was in a 'happy place'!

Two busy days of Motorsport photography....
04th May 2021

The GMC&CC organized two busy days of Hillclimbing at Les Val des Terres on the 2nd and 3rd of May 2021. Whilst conditions weren't perfect due to a chilly wind there were many PB's recorded together with new Class records.

Inevitably with two full days of racing and a large entry of competitors across all Classes there was opportunity to take many, many pics. The number might very well be a PB record of my own!!

Table Tennis 2021 Singles Finals online......
01st May 2021

I was assigned to pop along to the Guernsey Table Tennis Association's Island Singles event by the Guernsey Press.

The brief was pretty simple. I just needed a few pics of the likely champions. It should have been a quick in and out visit.

However I really enjoyed watching the fast paced action with several of the games being very close.

So I was easily distracted and ended up watching through to the end!

I did still manage a few pics though and they are now online here:

It was a 'fresh' start to Sunday morning ahead of a busy day......
26th April 2021

In the 'long gone' days when I had a social life a Sunday morning was sure to see me rise with a hangover after a heavy Saturday night. Back then an early morning fresh, biting and chilly northerly wind would have been welcomed. Indeed it would have been just what the Doctor ordered.

However as time has passed I no longer (at least rarely) need such 'medicine' on a Sunday. It is far more likely that at 6am I am tucked up cozily in bed and reluctant to move!

But thankfully I'm still invigorated and motivated by what I do... that's taking pics if you haven't noticed! to find the will to go out searching for the latest sporting action whatever the weather.

So I was wrapped up against the wind when I was down on the west coast to photograph the GVC Road Race on the Coudre Circuit.

My pics of the event are now online here:

There was a whiff of fuel on the strong breeze....
26th April 2021

Sunday morning was a blustery affair. Even within the slightly sheltered confines of The Track the wind had a bitter chill to it as I photographed the latest Round of the GK&MC Kart championships.

Once those pics were in the can I headed off to Chouet beach for some Autocross Banger action. It was down there on the sands that there really was nowhere to hide from the bitter onslaught.

Surprisingly there were a few brave (and tough) spectators sitting in their favorite spots to view the tense final Round of the shortened Autocross Summer Championships.

As always there was plenty of action to distract us from the chill... thankfully!

I've added new Galleries featuring both events:

Mowing the grass.... but not as you know it!
24th April 2021

The Channel Island Mower Racing Association organized a race meeting in a dusty field near the Guernsey Dairy on Saturday.

This sport is quite a casual affair as race meetings have to fit around the availability of a field to race in!

The latest meeting showcased competitive and exciting racing. However the vibe in the pits was relaxed and was all about having a good time.

Racers helped out their competitors with mechanical problems and whilst races were electronically timed and recorded the most important aspect of the racing was to have fun! How refreshing.

This format of Motorsport offers the very best value/fun per £ of any class of racing!

I've added a Gallery featuring some of my pics. Follow this link:

A busy weekend of climbs and descents.....
19th April 2021

The weekend has been full of ups and downs and it was a relief to get seated at my desk for the edit of my work.

It has been two days of motorsport photography... all involving bikes!

The GK&MC organized a 2-Day Motocross event up at the Pleinmont track. Conveniently the other event I covered was just around the corner (down the hill) at Portelet.

This was organised by the GMC&CC and involved the Trials bike riders. The Sunday morning was for the Juniors and Seniors. After lunch the main sections where out on the slopes.

I still have to get used to a Motorsport that doesn't make noise! Usually I get a warning of approaching competitors but with several junior trials riders now using electric powered bikes they have a habit of appearing 'from nowhere'. I think I'm going to have to employ a 'minder' to watch my back!

All the weekend's pics are now online. Just follow these links to view them:

You're never too old to Rock'n'ROLL....
11th April 2021

Round 2 of the Autocross Club's Summer Banger racing championship returned to it's 50+ years beach track today.

The weather was a bit more comfortable at Chouet compared to Vazon beach yesterday and the action was entertaining as usual.

Proving that you're never too old to Rock'n'ROLL (get it?) Compo went topsie turvie on the pits bend.... and he managed it without any help too!

The smile on his face as he exited the drivers window said it all! He was OK he'll only have to deal with a stiff neck tomorrow as the double rollover was pretty dramatic.

Whilst I was on the corner where it all went wrong I could only react to what I saw and just managed to capture the second roll. Shame.

Make sure you follow this championship. It always offers plenty of action and if you arrive early enough you can even take a ring-side seat in your car so you avoid the sea breeze!

Follow this link to view Compo's ROLL-OVER and all the other action:
FOOTNOTE: I'd just like to add something to my comments above.

I've been looking again through the sequence of pics I captured of Compo's crash and it is very impressive how quickly the marshals reacted. In fact the flag is in the air before the car has completed its roll!
All Motorsport has an element of risk but it is reassuring that serious injury is very rare and the Marshals and safety team do such a great job. Well done everyone.
Sand Racing is the next sport back up to speed.....
10th April 2021

We were back down on the familiar sands of Vazon Bay today for Round 1 of the Guernsey Motor Cycle and Car Club Sand Racing Championship.

Sadly the sun didn't shine, it seems that Sand Racing couldn't entice it out! In fact there was rain early in the day and it threatened to return as the final races came to the line.

By luck, I managed to avoid a soaking... for a change.

My pics of Round 1 are now online here:

On your marks, get set, GO!
05th April 2021

The Motorsport community in Guernsey came to the start line on Easter Bank Holiday Monday to get back to doing what they like best. RACING!

The Guernsey Autocross Club Banger Racing had already re-started last weekend together with the Guernsey Kart & Motor Club Kart championships and Vazon Sprint but this time it was the Guernsey Motor Cycle & Car Club Hillclimbers who returned to the start line.

It was a chilly day down at the base of Les Val des Terres hill but that didn't deter the eager competitors and the event saw many PB's despite the cold tarmac. There were also a couple of big crashes as the racers got to grips with their long lay off.

Ultimately most people returned home with broad smiles on their faces having got back to what they love most.

I've added a new Gallery featuring the action. Follow this link to view my pics:

The final race in the 2021 GVC Easter race series....
04th April 2021

It was an early start for me this morning to allow me to get 'out west' to L'Eree for the final event in the Guernsey Velo Club PVK Easter series.

The Road Race had a good size entry with riders enjoying much more comfortable weather conditions compared to the previous morning!

Many supporters also turned out to take advantage of our return to normal life after the lifting of the Covid lockdown.

The smiles and chatter at the finish line suggested that we are all aware how lucky we are to be able to resume our chosen pastimes.

I've added a new Gallery featuring some of my pics:

Sprinters & Karters return at full speed....
28th March 2021

After Guernsey had eliminated the Covid-19 virus for the second time the Guernsey Kart & Motor Club returned to The Track for Round 3 of their Kart Summer Championship.

All our Motorsport Club's were quick to respond to the new freedoms and it meant a busy weekend of shooting.

This is a link to the latest Karting Gallery:

The GK&MC also organized their first tarmac event of 2021 with a Sprint meeting at Vazon Coast Road. It was this event that kicked off the weekend with its Saturday lunchtime start.

Back to the beach for the bangers......
28th March 2021

The 2021 Autocross Banger Racing season had a delayed start due to Guernsey being locked down with a second wave of Covid-19.

But our Island pulled together and by the end of March we were again free from the virus. So Guernsey was one of the few communities in the world which was able to live a near normal life.

This included all sports... so it was back to the beach for the Autocross Banger racers.

Not only was it a pleasure to be back photographing Motorsport it was nice to be on the beach as the sun came out too!

My weekend's shooting also included the Sprint meeting at Vazon coast road together with championship Kart racing at The Track.

Like I said before. Normal life has returned!

Table Tennis is another sport to return to the league fixtures...
25th March 2021

Normal service is beginning to return to our Island home.

I popped along to the Hougue du Pommier Table Tennis Centre to photograph a little bit of league action as this popular Island sport returned to its fixtures after the lifting of the second Covid lockdown.

I only had a few minutes between assignments but I managed to capture some of the action.

Rovers take a step nearer to making Club history.....
25th March 2021

Rovers took a step closer to picking up the Jeremie Cup in 2021 when they beat the Northerners at Blanche Pierre Lane. 24-03-2021.

The Club has never won this 119-year-old silverware and now only have to win against St Martins in the June final. I guess that many 'neutrals' will be wishing the Rovers good luck in their historic quest!

Jake Stephens made a dream debut for Rovers by scoring the opening goal in the 2-1 win, so playing an important part in making Club history.

I've added a small Gallery of pics here:
