The GVC XC racers were spoilt this morning when they returned to the Thorntons circuit. The opportunity to race on the private land near the reservoir was taken up by a good sized entry.

The track offered a bit of everything really. Twisty... you've got it, gradients... ticked, long straight runs... sorted!

The Guernsey Raiders battled to the final whistle at Footes Lane yesterday but missed the win against Colchester with the end result at a very close 36-38.

Sadly it wasn't to be this time but the Guernsey Raiders are proving that they are in the running and highly competitive.

Everyone loves a good deal and it was two for the price of one on Wednesday night.

I started the evening at Footes Lane where GFC produced a much better performance against Horndean.

At halftime I headed off to Beau Sejour where Savills faced Skipton in the Guernsey Basketball League.

It was a tough afternoon at Footes Lane for GFC players and supporters alike.

As GFC enter into a period of packed fixtures they were probably hoping to start with a strong performance and a memorable win.

But sometimes a plan just doesn't come together and our Green Lions never got up to speed when they hosted Rayners Lane at Footes Lane.

Now, going forward, GFC needs to re-group and focus ahead of the next important games. We will offer all the support we can.

I spent an interesting half hour at the Gremlin Club this afternoon.

I was covering a Guernsey Snooker event that was new to me.

The format was titled as the Aquacovers Snooker Shootout and it was certainly hectic when compared to a regular Snooker Tournament.

There was a really good entry and the ten minute 'shootouts' meant I had plenty to photograph. If you are interested my photos are now online here:

The Guernsey Dinner Boxing Club's February Fight Night at St Pierre Park Hotel showcased nine well matched bouts with a team from Guernsey taking on the visitors from Henry's Gym.

Dinner Club members enjoyed the committed fighting with several local favourites stepping into the ring.

Once again I was ring-side trying to capture the highlights and I've now added a new Gallery featuring my shots.

Le Guet produced its usual challenges for the MTB riders at the first race in the GVC Downhill Racing Ian Brown's XC Series.

With lots of steep slopes, negative cambers, slippery roots, brambles, cross-overs and pine needles... not much was missing!

The Guernsey Netball teams across all ages are continuing their efforts to gain more experience against stronger sides.

This is certainly the way to develop young players and it is great to see the progress that comes from the competition.

However, whilst every local Sport is chasing greater success they all face the major barrier that living on an Island presents.... the COST!

Hopefully generous sponsorships and support can still be found at a time that many are tightening their belts. Only time will tell.

Recently I photographed the Guernsey Panthers Under 16's Netball team playing a visiting team 'Stars' at St Sampsons High.

With a crowd of supporters numbering over seven hundred and enough Media on the touch-line to put out their own team it's safe to say that there was a lot of interest in the Green Lionesses first game on home soil.

And with the Guernsey FC Women scoring a goal only five minutes into the tie.... could it be a dream start?

Well no. But it was fantastic while it lasted and ultimately Sutton United's far greater experience sealed a good win for them.

However there was plenty of promise to be taken from our local ladies performance and they've taken their first step on an exciting journey.

That's another of the weekends photoshoots ticked off the list.

I visited the Guernsey Series of Darts event that was taking place at the RAFA Club on Saturday.

The place was packed solid with play in two adjoining rooms making it a real challenge to photograph. Finding a good sight-line whilst making sure not to wander into the path of the flying darts was fun!

I've always found that the darts events that I've covered have been busy but I got the feeling that this Sport is enjoying a rise in popularity.

Sport can be tough.

If you are highly competitive the challenge is that the best you can give isn't always enough for you to be the winner.

But that doesn't mean you should give up as more training and more experience can, over time, take you to the next level.

Sadly when I photographed the Guernsey Netball Association's Under 19's Panthers v Bs Netball our locals were beaten.

But our local side showed great commitment and endeavour and signalled that their ambition is to improve and face the challenge.

I really enjoyed photographing the game and I hope my photos illustrate how much work both sides put in.

I've just enjoyed a very busy weekend which ticked most of the boxes for me.

The thing I really love about being a photographer is that my work is so varied... let me give you an example of the weekends run around.

As I get older I have to look to the youth of our Island for energy and optimism.

This is the case across all my interests.... sports and live music in particular.

It is the young that approach challenges without fear and the baggage of failure... oh to be eighteen again, eh!

This youthful energy was on show at the KGV when the Guernsey U18's met Rangers in the Stranger Cup. The U18's really made the Rangers run for possession of the ball and their skills and confidence with the ball made me optimistic that in the next few years in the Muratti we could see Guernsey face up to our historic rivals across the water and come out on top!

The Guernsey Motor Cycle & Car Club Trials season is well underway and I managed to pop along on Sunday afternoon.

I visited two of the venues which resulted in a nice variety of shots.

Several sections had been set up at the St Germain site. The other sections were at the northern end of Vazon Bay. I think there was general agreement that the beach sections over the loose boulders took no prisoners!

But I was happy to capture a Gallery of photos that illustrated the variety of challenges.

The Motocross track had a busy weekend as it hosted a Motocross Practice meeting on Saturday which was followed by a Guernsey Velo Club event on Sunday morning.

The track surface looked in great condition having benefitted from the prep work by the Motocross guys.

This set the scene for the GVC Cyclocross race on Sunday with the organisers setting a long and varied track utilizing some of the roads around Pleinmont headland then diverting onto the MX track for some more technical challenges.

The amount of gradient combined with the loose surfaces certainly sapped the strength of the riders but many still managed a smile for the camera!

Friday's run around chasing the Sports action was busy.... but fun.

When three Sports all have the same start time of 7.30pm a photographer could really make good use of a Delorean to help with a bit of time travelling!

Sadly I had to make do with my CLA 45s and the 35mph local speed limits!

But I managed to tick all the boxes and photos of the last of the three games I photographed are now online.

The Strangers Cup game between Vale Rec and Rovers ended in a 1-1 draw and sadly all two goals had been scored before I arrived. But you can still view a small gallery of my pics by clicking this link:

It's been pretty hectic so far in January 2025. Now the holiday break is over it seems that every Sport wants to get back up to full speed.

I've visited Beau Sejour a couple of times to cover the Basketball championships and this time was for the Woman's League.

My photos of the Oracle Diamonds v Ravenscroft game are now online.

The gallery is a bit limited as I only had a very short time there as I was also assigned to photograph two football games on the same evening.

The complication was that they were at three different venues and they all started at 7.30pm!!

This required a chase around.... but I managed, just!

The Stranger Cup football is underway and I was assigned to cover two of the games on Friday night. I also photographed a Women's Basketball League game at Beau Sejour.

As all three games started at 7.30pm I had to juggle my time between the photography and the travel to the three different venues!

Luckily at that time in the evening the roads are empty so I didn't suffer from any delays and it felt good to complete all the work in the limited time.

One of the Stranger Cup games was between North and the Guernsey Under 18's. The North took the win and proved to be stronger and more experienced than the youngsters but the U18 squad improve every time I see them play.

I'm beginning to think that the FA refs just keep adding minutes of extra time to the GFC games until we concede a late goal! Whether this results in the local side losing the game or maybe just giving the opposition a draw to go home with!

Sadly the last option was how Saturdays game finished when GFC played Bagshot Lea at Footes Lane in the Isthmian South Central League.

At the end of ninety minutes Guernsey were one up... but the clock hadn't stopped yet! And sure enough, even though it took an extra TEN minutes to happen, the final whistle only blew once the visitors had been awarded a penalty... and scored!

Once again GFC paid a costly price by dropping a couple of points that they really can't afford to squander.
