Good luck to the Guernsey Pool Association teams when the travel to Jersey to play in the 2026 CI International Pool Tournament.

The Vale Earthlings' Ball at St James Guernsey proved to be a colourful and memorable night and a chance to celebrate and party with the Vale Earth Fair Collective and friends.

The intergalactic travellers Henge headlined the night with support from Yas. It was notable that a crowd of locals were tuned in to (and suitably dressed) for what Henge were going to offer.

'And what was that'? I here you say.

Well I can't put it better that what Google offered when I searched for Henge the band.

'Henge blend electronically-charged space rock, rave energy, and psychedelic funk into their self-styled Cosmic Dross, delivered through costumed alien personas. Their theatrical shows weave sci‑fi mythmaking with messages of unity and ecology, creating an immersive, euphoric live experience that’s won them a devoted festival following'.

All I can add to that is that they also make for great photos... and mine are now online!

Photos of the Guernsey Amalgamated Boxing Club's Open Boxing Night at Beau Sejour are now online.

With new faces on the bill there was an eye towards the future.

I was only able to photograph the last four bouts as I had a double booking at the start of the evening. I was covering the Guernsey Press 'Pride of Guernsey Awards' at St Pierre Park Hotel.

Interestingly, there was a boxing link at the Awards as the winner of 'Sports Volunteer of the Year' was Ben Duff for dedicating more than 18 years of his time to mentoring and developing local boxers, helping them achieve success on and off the world stage.

My photos of the 2026 Guernsey Press 'Pride of Guernsey Awards' at St Pierre Park Hotel are now online.

This event showcased the very best aspects of Island life and the many amazing achievements by the Award Winners.

Once again the personal stories of challenges overcome, of selfless generosity and life changing good deeds were touching and inspiring.

We are blessed to live in a community full of such amazing people.

Having enjoyed another busy and more importantly a very varied weekend of photography the edits have begun.

Included in the line-up has been the first game at Beau Sejour in the new Guernsey Basketball league.

An awesome gig at St James Guernsey that was headlined by the unique Henge. If ever there is a need to prove that music has to be experienced live, this band provides the proof!

Then, next up was Guernsey FC v Little Common football at Victoria Park... the GFC were excellent and produced a solid performance right across the pitch.

The biggest event for me was covering the annual Guernsey Press 'Pride of Guernsey Awards' at St Pierre Park Hotel. That was a very busy an intense evening chasing around the busy room trying to capture all the emotions.

But after the awards there was still a short time available for me to pop up to Beau Sejour again but this time it was to photograph the last four bouts of the October Fight Night!

So that was about as different as I could make it... amazing fun and I have been left a little broken!

Photos of the first game played in the new season of the Guernsey Basketball Association's Cornerstone Group League are now online.

Featuring two of the younger teams representing Guernsey Under 18's v Servol Spartans there were new faces for me to photograph at Beau Sejour.

I'm sure that by the end of the season they'll become familiar to me as I'm certain to be back court-side for more of their clashes.

I thought the real positive was seeing so many young players on court as this ticked the important 'continuity' box.

All Clubs, Sports, Associations.... in fact every group or business has to have an eye on the future for it to continue to exist, so it's great to see the GBA looking ahead by developing the young squads.

This was something a little different for a change.

I was photographing the carving of what is believed to be the first tuna caught by a team from a Channel Island restaurant.

Fukku organised an open doors event at their premises in Smith Street where a group of interested people were able to watch the skillful process up close and then sample the results!

The day after the annual Petit Bot hillclimb I found myself back at the hill. This time it was nearer the top and I was only photographing motorbikes!
The event was a Guernsey Motor Cycle & Car Club Trials meeting using mostly hidden sections that made good use of the slopes of the valley sides.

I only had a couple of hours available to photograph the 2026 GK&MC Hillclimb before leaving for another job.

But I was able to photograph a couple of record breaking runs and the records continued to drop throughout the day in the dry conditions! Yes it was a dry Petit Bot hillclimb... thats a bit of a record in it's own right!

Last Sunday I covered the solemn annual memorial service at Le Foulon cemetery where senior island representatives gathered together with ex-servicemen to honour all those who died when HMS Charybdis and HMS Limbourne sank after being hit by German torpedoes in 1943.

The Guernsey Panthers U16s Guernsey Netball Association team had a terrific start to their season playing in the Southern Shores Performance League when they played Laurel Park twice in two days!

The young local squad won both games of the double-header making it a perfect start to their campaign.

The 2026 La Fête des Bêtes at St James Guernsey saved the best till last.

The headliners on Saturday night seemed to be what the whole had been working towards.

I enjoyed Friday's music a lot more that I had expected... remember, it's no secret that guys of my generation grew up with Black Sabbath and Led Zepplin so for me to feel musically satisfied by the line-up on Friday is quite something.

But it was Saturday night that was the real eye opener and the credit probably has to be given to Chemira. The band generated a reaction from their audience that I've never seen before.

Forgive me if I offend a few of the audience, but the mix included quite a lot of 'oldies' together with every age below! But the generation gap melted away as people mixed, smiled, jumped around and held hands whilst they were instructed in all the things that make a Ceilidh such fun!

The experience showed the power of music to bring pleasure and a feeling of community to everyone.... but it has to be LIVE to tick every box!

La Fête des Bêtes was back at St James Guernsey to celebrate the 2026 Mabon, the autumn equinox and midpoint between light and dark.

Featuring live performances spread over two busy nights the audience was able to enjoy Charlie Sherbourne, Falls The Dew, The Basement Preachers, Gnoss, An Dannsa Dub, GU10 and Jersey's Gonzo Gypsy Good Times Band.

Completing the weekend were the headliners Chimera with a raucous Ceilidh which had the whole room bouncing!

And on that note I concede that Mark Helyer was right and I was wrong!

As we waited for Chemira to take to the stage Mark tried to convince me that all those people who had sat out the bands earlier in the night were there specifically for the Ceilidh... I was less convinced!

Then the fun kicked off and the dance floor became packed with more smiling people than I've ever seen at a gig! My education is complete. A Ceilidh = a great time!

Maybe the 2026 Guernsey Kart & Motor Club's Imperial Hillclimb was a record breaker for the number of records broken?

In near perfect conditions and with the knowledge that the competitors wouldn't be back at this hill for another 24 months there was plenty of incentive to push hard.

Inevitably this led to a couple of mishaps but overall there were lots of smiles in the pit area at the end of the day.

Because the GK&MC are able to return the racers to the start-line using a back road there were plenty of runs.... and plenty of photo opportunities too!

I recently photographed a performance by the first artist in residence at St James Guernsey.

Marina Moore created an experience like no other I have seen and heard.

I use those two terms with equal weight in describing the performance as Marina herself remained unseen apart from her back-lit shadow projected onto a huge screen.

Using violin, viola, looper pedals, soundscapes and Korg MicroKorg Marina created an incredible wall of sound.

The challenge for me was I was unable to photograph (and enjoy) the performance in the 'normal' way... an audience (and photographer) can usually connect visually to the creator of the sound!

It actually took me a while to 'let go' of my expectations and to start to enjoy the experience.

For a while I resisted appreciating the 'whole performance'.

But slowly I started to understand that this was creativity without boundaries and my final verdict was that I was taught a new lesson in how to loosen up and open my mind when pushed outside my comfort zone.... the music was great too!

So what of the photos I was intending to take? Well, I eventually embraced the opportunity to capture something different and I think the result is a series of abstract images that represent an unexpected and unusual night.

A special mention has to go to Marina's collaborators on the night, Charley Kendall (Graphics) Billy Devaney (Lighting) and Ian Allsopp (Sound).

I've been working through the edit of 15 bouts of the Boxfit Gym 'King of the North' fight night at the KGV.

With a perfect blue sky and a great line-up of boxers taking to the ring in front of hundreds of punters, there was an electric atmosphere from bout 1 to the final bell ending bout 15!

I captured all 15 bouts which has made a mega edit... but I'm getting there! Already online are galleries featuring 11 of the bouts and the rest are on the way.

My photos of the Guernsey Triathlon Club's 2026 Granite Weekender are now online.

The 2026 Guernsey Triathlon Club's Granite Sprint Triathlon and the Granite 100 Triathlon were based at the Peninsular Hotel which offered easy access to the sea for the swimming leg.

The grounds of the hotel were also perfect for the transitions into the cycle and finally the run.

Sadly this year the descent and climb of the Ronez quarry had to be moved to the trails around the perimeter but competitors still completed a really challenging course.

Covering the event as a photographer has its own challenge as the courses are spread along the west coast of Guernsey. Much of the time is spent hanging around waiting for the action. But it's always fun as competitors manage to smile through their discomfort... how odd these guys are!

Photos of the popular Sark Harbour Hill Lawnmower Hillclimb are now online. The event is organised by the Channel Islands Lawn Mower Racing Association. Otherwise know as the crazy Mob!!

The racing attracts many of the Sark residents to cycle across the island to join the boat loads of spectators who arrive from Guernsey.

This is motorsport in Sark style... it even has a pub on the finish line!

Definitely a recommended event to view on a summer's evening.

As I add the final galleries of photos capturing some of the scene around the venues that supported the 2026 Vale Earth Fair's 50th I'm even more in awe that the event was saved from disaster.

The VEF Collective had to make a late decision to move the festival into St Peter Port after high winds stopped the setup in Vale Castle!

The fact that, with only hours to make it happen, the Vale Earth Fair 'Goes to Town' took place spread across five venues in St Peter Port is incredible and amazing!

This festival day was also an odd one for me. I've made no secret in the past that I was a regular visitor to Errol's Real Ale Bar. This was an enjoyable distraction from taking pics!

However, for the first and hopefully only time, I had a 'dry' festival as I'd decided that the only way I could do justice to as many bands and venues as possible was to drive around to them.... remember I am an ancient pensioner, ha, ha!

So the ale free day was the ultimate sacrifice for me to make! I hope you agree and think the pics made it worth it!

It's taken me a while to work it out, but if I get straight on with a job it's more likely to be completed quickly!

After 50 years of marriage I should know by now that all I have to do is ask the wife... she who is so wise... and she will 'advise' where I'm going wrong (with everything)!

So, after missing the updates for the previous hillclimb I was 'advised' to get on with Monday's edit immediately.... DON'T leave it!

And of course she was right (as always) and Monday's hillclimb has already been edited and uploaded!!

The only problem now is that I have a few hours available and the wifey is heading my way with her list of To-Do's.

Quick, I'd better get started on the Vale Earth Fair edit..... 'sorry love, I'm busy'.
