The best ever Guernsey Rally has a damp finish.....
27th February 2026

Saving the best till last, the 2026 Little Big Group Guernsey Rally entertained crowds of spectators as it finished the busy weekend of motorsport with some spectacular racing on Saturday afternoon.

The price to pay for this enjoyment was a thorough soaking for any mad photographers and spectators who chose to stand out for hours in the rain whilst waiting for the 'road show' to return to their stage.

However, we all soon dried out and the memory of the discomfort fades... but we still have the photos to recall the racing action!

I've now completed all the 2026 Rally edits and the hundreds of photos are now uploaded to my website if you are interested.

If you can share the link that would be great, thanks.

The Rally updates continue.....
26th February 2026

A new update for the Little Big Group Guernsey Rally has been added to my website.

Featuring the Saturday morning racing I had so many photos I've actually split them over two Galleries!

Still to come I have the Saturday (wet one) afternoon to add. Keep a lookout so you don't miss them.

A job that digital (free) photography was made for......
24th February 2026

I feel so lucky to have enjoyed both the 'old days' of actual film photography and the modern replacement in the form of Digital capture.

The special part about spanning such a dramatic change in photography is that when I first picked up a camera I was able to develop as a photographer at a time that 'shooting' a roll of thirty-six photos resulted in considerable expense as developing and printing added to the cost.

This taught me a certain discipline and awareness of when it was unwise to even try (waste) taking a shot in near impossible conditions.

But now the good, no, great thing about the digital era is that taking photos and exploring photography in near impossible conditions doesn't cost a fortune... in fact it is essentially free!

So it was good to push the digital photography boundaries on the Friday night stages of the 2026 Guernsey Rally.

The challenge was to work in near total darkness without using flash lights whilst capturing very fast moving Rally Cars!

I can't claim that I'm totally happy with the results I ended up with but it was certainly enjoyable trying to overcome the situation... and the best part is that it didn't cost a penny!

There's a new Gallery on my website if you want to see the results. Click the link to view it:

The Guernsey Rally 2026 feels the love.....
22nd February 2026

What an incredible two days of the Guernsey Rally... but a little bit wet too, eh!

I was out with dozens of other photographers trying to capture the action and keep my kit dry! The edit has started and It's a biggie!

Well done to everyone who made the event work so brilliantly. I spoke to dozens of spectators and residents along the Stages and didn't get one negative comment.

I think Guernsey has grown to LOVE Rallying! Mission accomplished.

I'll be adding my photos to the Rally Galleries on my website as the edit continues but just for now here are a few tasters.

Keep a check on my website for updates here:

A misty 10 mile run on Sunday morning....
18th February 2026

Any Sports event organised in February runs the risk of the weather playing a part in the results.

In fact it can be more serious than that... just take note of how many Inter-insulars have been cancelled due to the weather and travel problems. An example was the Jeremie Cup game on Sunday.

But then sometimes weather conditions play little or no role in the results... maybe even help a bit!

On Sunday I was out at L'Eree for the Richard Friedrich Imperial 10 Mile Road Run and athletes were presented with a fairly mild morning with quite a thick and patchy mist.

However the cool conditions perhaps a helped the 120 runners who lining up on the start-line?

Photographically the mist added atmosphere to some of my photos so I felt rewarded for my effort!

Let the 2026 Battle of the School Bands commence.....
17th February 2026

I was assigned by The Guernsey Press to photograph the 2026 Thirst Music School 'Battle of the School Bands' at Beau Sejour.

I'd photographed this event last year and I had also photographed many of the students previously at other events and in a variety of Bands. These young musicians certainly enjoy their passion for live music and they will turn up anywhere they can showcase their talents!

The evening of the 'Battle' was a great example of this. Five school Bands had clearly been practicing hard and they all revelled in playing on the big stage at Beau Sejour to what appeared to be a near sell-out crowd.

All the production values on the night were first class, sound and lighting. No-one left the theatre unimpressed by what they had seen and heard.

Congratulations to the Band representing Elizabeth College, Shockwave, who won the trophy (and cash) for being judged as the Best Band!

There are new Galleries showcasing all the Bands and the atmosphere on the night. Click the link to view them:

GFC are great.... but they could be greater!
16th February 2026

Hey GFC we love supporting you... in the same way that everyone loves a winner!

With Guernsey FC on a serious run of good results the Victoria Park stands are getting fuller with fans at every home game, so I'm clearly not alone in enjoying this moment.

Also there are positive noises coming from the bench. Even after a 7-3 win over Shoreham the mood in the team is that 'we must do better'. That is how all successful sportsmen talk and respond and this promises that more is still to come.

Sadly I was only able to enjoy the first half of the GFC v Shoreham game as I had to pop off to photograph a netball match!

But I still managed to capture some of the action. Click the link to view the Gallery:

Get as close as is safe... then one step closer...
15th February 2026

Well, that was a bit too close for comfort!

Whilst photographing today's GMC&CC Guernsey Trials meeting at St Germain I had a bit of a moment when Sam Torode powered up a very slippery slope.... straight towards me!

After watching other riders on the section I had decided what the best angle (I thought) was for a dramatic action shot.

I backed into the bushes on the top of a steep and slippery climb.

I'd seen the line that other riders were using and this viewpoint should be perfect for me.... but I'd missed one important detail.

Sam is a Red Route (Expert) rider, so he was going to take a different line. When this difference was combined with the slippery surface, Sam had to use full power to have any chance of making it up the climb!

As I had nowhere to go the only thing to do was to keep the shutter pressed...

My sequence of pics (see the website) tell the story. Well done Sam for missing me!

A NOTE FOR PHOTOGRAPHERS: The lens I was using was a 24mm wide angle. You will understand just how close that front tyre was to wiping me out!!

Two for the price of one.... now that's a good deal!
12th February 2026

We all love a good deal and I was pleased to get 'two for the price of one' last night whilst at Beau Sejour.

I arrived there to photograph the Guernsey Women's Basketball game between Pumas and Titans.

But this is where the deal just got better!

On the adjoining court there was an unusual Guernsey Netball Association game taking place.... unusual because it featured the Guernsey Men's netball team playing a visiting Women's side from the Royal Navy.

I was really surprised by the Guernsey Men's play, they were good, and they won decisively. The margin was wide enough that I don't need to state it here!

But the game represented what is great about Sport. There was friendship and respect on the court and everyone involved enjoyed themselves. A big thumbs up to the value that Sport brings to a healthy community.

Here are two links to the 'double deal'!

A great result for the Lionesses.....
11th February 2026

On Sunday the Green Lionesses played Shaftesbury at Victoria Park in the Southern Region Women's Division One.

Perhaps the Lionesses were nervous and under pressure before the game as their opponents were placed low in the league. A good result was expected by some supporters.

However as the game progressed it was clear that Shaftesbury was a decent side!

So against expectations the Lionesses had a real game on their hands and they proved how much they are improving with each game. They were strong all across the pitch, they kept their concentration when under pressure and came away with a valuable win!

As an add on to the result the whole squad will have grown in confidence in their abilities. Great work ladies.

My gallery of photos is now online. Click this link:

The Under 16 Panthers fought hard over two weekend matches....
09th February 2026

The Guernsey Netball Association's Under 16 Panthers continued their journey playing in the Under 16 South Region League with two matches against Finchamptead over the weekend.

The visiting side proved to be tough opposition but our local girls fought hard and it was clear that the squad is benefiting from the wider competition. Every match builds their confidence and team play.

I only had a short time to spend down at St Sampson's High for the first match but I captured some of the action and there's now a gallery online if you are interested:

An exciting night of boxing at its best.....
08th February 2026

What an incredible night at St Pierre Park Hotel for the Guernsey Dinner Boxing Club's February 'Boxing at the Park'.

The Guernsey team hosted a North of England Select team for ten well matched bouts.

With the return to the ring of a couple of local favourites the room was brimming with a crowd of enthusiastic supporters. The added noise and excitement made the event one of the best for a long time.

Every boxer left the ring with nothing left to give. This was the sport at its best.

I covered all ten bouts and, if you're interested, the galleries can be viewed by clicking this link:

Thank goodness for the volunteers......
08th February 2026

There's so much Sport played and organised in Guernsey that I feel the States often don't give as much support to Club's as they deserve.

However, thank goodness, there seems to be an endless supply of people who are prepared to give their time to making the multitude of Club events work... whatever the weather!

Sunday morning up at the motocross track is a good example of how the Guernsey Velo Club volunteers were up early to lay out the track for Round 1 of the Ian Brown's MTB XC Series. It was windy and muddy with heavy showers! Why do they suffer the discomforts to give others the chance to have fun?

I popped up to photograph the racing and the riders were very welcoming and remarkably they even seemed to enjoy the mud!

My photos are now online. Click the link to the gallery if you are interested:

Why is every assignment a wet one?
05th February 2026

Too many of my assignments this winter have been wet!

But I seem to be easily distracted from the discomfort if the action I'm photographing is good enough.

Last night at the Loveridge Cup Final the football, just about, kept me interested. There were good periods but the game was quite one-sided with Sylvans fully deserving their win over the North U21's.

I returned home wet and cold.... but I'll do it all again tomorrow if called out!

Where were the spectators?
04th February 2026

Can you see what's missing in these pics of last Sunday's Autocross racing?

There's plenty of action, speed, sand, cars and spray, so all those boxes are ticked!

So here's a clue. It was a horrible morning, raining, windy and cold.

Now I ask you. Would you spectate on the top of the bank in that sort of weather?

Of course not... and everyone else thought the same. There was barely a spectator in sight! They were all tucked up and cosy in their cars parked overlooking the track!

But I was still mad enough to go down on the beach for a few photos. Click the link to view them:

GFC show their class with a significant win......
03rd February 2026

Photos are online of the clash between Guernsey FC and Steyning Town at Victoria Park.

This was an important game for both teams as they were positioned in second and third place in the Southern Combination League.

The game didn't disappoint as it was packed with drama and action with the final result going to Guernsey FC with their 3-2 win!

Well done guys, you fought for every ball and fully deserved the significant result.

Mini Motocross riders deceive the eye.....
02nd February 2026

As the Guernsey Kart & Motor Club's 2026 Motocross championship started Round 2 on their muddy clifftop track I was particularly impressed how capable the youngest riders were in the challenging conditions.

It's rather surprising when you find out that the youngest rider is only four!

I'm always amused that my photos of them racing give very little idea how young, and small, the riders actually are as their bikes and kit are 'mini' versions of the adults creating a bit of an 'optical illusion'!

I've added a new gallery featuring my photos. If you want to see if you can identify the juniors click the link to take a look:

The youngsters were hard to beat.....
01st February 2026

If I'm being honest, I wasn't particularly motivated last Friday when I headed to Victoria Park on the damp, rainy evening.

I was booked to photograph another Stranger Cup game and as I've covered many this season, this fact also dampened my own spirits.

However, I have to confess, the contest between the Guernsey Under 18's and Rovers soon made the effort of wrapping up in my waterproofs worth my while as the action on the pitch was terrific.

Rovers took a hard earned 4-3 win over the battling youngsters who came so close to getting the result.

It was a memorable night and a reminder that it's worth making an effort sometimes.

I've uploaded a new gallery featuring my photos:

Green is the winning colour....
28th January 2026

This was my first visit of the year to photograph the Guernsey Netball Winter League at Les Varendes High School. The top-of-the-table clash was between Resolution IT Green v Specsavers Lightning Strike and it was the Greens who walked away with a decisive win.

I've added a new gallery featuring my shots. Click this link if you are interested:
